Hemp and solar panels - The Sunimplant Projet in Morocco

The Sunimplant Project, Ben Guerir, Morocco

The Sunimplant project is a Moroccan eco-building project, built with hemp. It was officially presented at the World Solar Decathlon Africa 2019. If the concept itself was born from the collaboration of Moroccan students, it was developed around an international cooperation between several expert actors of the construction industry. As an exemple, the Adrar Nouh cooperative, founded by the German architect Monika Brümmer, offers prefabricated solutions made of hemp from the Central High Rif.

Hemp fibres are used on the outside, while the solar panels are fitted with hemp wool. Monika Brümmer is pleased with the success of the project, although she believes that "Even better performance could have been achieved if the original plans to install hemp-earth panels for the interior walls and floors, as well as other minor modifications, had not been abandoned due to financial constraints".
The cost of the project amounts to US$ 120,000 (about MAD 1.2 million).
