Yasemin Somuncu graduated from Middle East Technical University Faculty of Architecture in 1994. After her graduation, she developed many projects and built most of them, from small scale to large scale complexes in Mimerya Architecture. In 2002, she received her Master's Degree on Environment and Energy from the Architectural Association School of Architecture (AA) in London, England. Between 2012 and 2020, she carried out EU-supported NEED4B, BRICKER and NEW GENERATION projects as well as NEXT-GEN projects supported by the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) as a Senior Researcher at Özyeğin University Energy, Environment and Economy Center (CEEE). She later acted as Key Expert in the TAS Europroject supported by European Commission – SRSS Technical Assistance for the Implementation of an Energy Efficiency Programme in Schools of Turkish Community in Cyprus. Currently she is developing and coordinating the SMART-GEN: Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Remote Tutorial Package, for different languages. She has many joint articles on completed and ongoing projects and user manuals for the dissemination of the completed projects.

She is founding member of the Clean Energy Foundation and Slow Food Association, Board Member at SEPEV – Zero Energy and Passive House Association, Advisory Board Member at TWRE Platform- Turkish Women's Platform on Renewable and Energy and  member at EYODER – Enerji Verimliliği ve Yöneticileri Derneği. She is voluntarily acting as the Secretary General of ZeroBuild Türkiye for the year of 2021.
