The Jardin Argenté project, located on the northeast shore of the Joliot Curie district, in the ZAC du Moulon, is part of a place undergoing significant change that must host an innovative urban campus of international stature. The parcel of the silver garden is located at the entrance of the district of Moulon, fringes of different university buildings.

The garden is one of the links in the hydraulic system throughout the ZAC du Moulon. It is part of a global and staggered reflection of rainwater management, daily and exceptional.

EPA Paris-Saclay has entrusted the consortium composed of D'Ici Là landscapes & territories (agents), ALTO STEP (BET VRD), Biodiversita (BET ecology), GMGB and ATP (subcontractors) the project management of Landscaping and technical landscaping of the Jardin Argenté.

The Jardin Argenté will be a natural link between CentraleSupélec, the IUT of Orsay and the Institute of Plant Biology. The IUT will have its restaurant directly overlooking this garden. In its design, the Silver Garden plans to manage both the altimetric variations between the Deck, central public space of the Joliot-Curie district and the forecourt of CentraleSupélec but also, propose management and rainwater retention devices.

Taking into account the nature of soils in the design of the Jardin Argenté allows natural retention of water. Thus, the garden manages and stamps the difference between the 50-year rain and the vicennial occurrence coming from the building of the Centrale Supélec school retained upstream. The very fine altimetry work ensures gravity flow to the lowest point.

In addition to the total reduction of the quantities of water, the wetland thus constituted makes it possible to preserve the plants from any deterioration in winter period. This plant stratum also contributes to the deployment of a natural biodiversity adapted to the ecological conditions of the Plateau. The Garden is crossed from east to west by a gently sloping footbridge that allows to extend the diagonal and offer the user a continuity of course comfortable and qualitative.

Content of ALTO STEP's mission:

  • Overall project management (ESQ, AVP, PRO, ACT, VISA, DET, AOR)
  • Hydraulic engineering design, including the design of a qualitative landscaping pond for stormwater management at the neighborhood scale, with respect to the site's altimetric constraints -Tree management (embankments / cuttings)
  • VRD technical design, integrating the creation of a bridge
  • Project economics summary
  • Realization of the digital model public space (BIM, CIM) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S3VP1PlUNmg&feature=youtu.be

Sustainable Development

    Challenges of the operation:

The silver garden has several issues:

    • Create a clear public space by offering a comfortable, simple and obvious catch from the Deck, in connection with the future metro station, the Learning Center and the main entrance of the Ecole Centrale,
    • Develop and bring new uses of pleasure,
    • To propose technical solutions in the hydraulic management in correlation with the pedological and regulatory constraints of the site

The Silver Garden will be a natural link between Centrale Supélec, the IUT Orsay and the Institute of Plant Biology. The IUT will have its restaurant directly overlooking this garden. In its design, the Silver Garden plans to manage both the altimetric variations between the Deck, a central public space in the Joliot-Curie district and the forecourt of Centrale Supélec, but also to propose management and rainwater retention devices. The Garden is crossed from east to west by a gently sloping footbridge that allows to extend the diagonal and offer the user a continuity of course comfortable and qualitative.

The garden reconciles the comfort of access and circulation to the uses of pleasure to settle and play. South-facing terraces are planned as well as a wooden terrace at the foot of the cafeteria of the IUT and comfortable furniture to settle, read, lie down and eat. Three ping-pong tables, a meadow for ball games are all spaces to invest by students and future residents of the neighborhood.

In addition to the total reduction of the quantities of water, the wetland thus constituted makes it possible to preserve the plants from any deterioration in winter period. This plant stratum also contributes to the deployment of a natural biodiversity adapted to the ecological conditions of the Plateau.

Taking into account the nature of soils in the design of the Jardin Argenté allows natural retention of water. The hydraulic infrastructure is part of the regulation of rainwater management in the Moulon district. Thus, the garden manages and stamps the difference between the 50-year rain and the vicennial occurrence from the CentraleSupélec school building retained upstream. The very fine altimetric work ensures the gravity flow to the low point.
