Big data and building in the EU: MATRYCS Stakeholder Workshop #1

The building sector accounts for a significant percentage of total global energy-related CO2 emissions. Competitive solutions must therefore be found in the building sector to revolutionise energy efficiency and management in buildings. The Horizon 2020 project 'MATRYCS', applies and tests big data approaches for use in building management and policy. With the creation of an innovative framework powered by artificial intelligence, the project will support data-driven decision-making, data analytics and real-life application at eleven pilot sites across Europe.

During its first project workshop, participants will be given an introductory glance at the approaches utilised to elevate building energy management through the use of big data. In this interactive session moderated by Roman Mendle (ICLEI EUROPE), the following topics will be addressed:

  • A general MATRYCS project overview, by Pasquale Andriani (ENG)
  • The technological perspective behind the use of big data, by Dario Pellegrino (ENG)
  • An overview of data-driven real-life demonstrations, by Gema Hernández Moral (CARTIF)
  • A deep-dive into two Large-Scale Pilots planned for the project, focusing on the impact of big data at the district and regional building levels, by Jaime Gómez Tribiño (VEOLIA) & Alfredo Cadórniga Pedrosa (EREN)

The workshop will take place on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at 9:30-11:00 CEST.
