To honor its commitment to become a carbon-neutral city by 2050, the Belgian municipality of Ottignies-Louvain-la-Neuve has deployed Opisense, the energy consumption monitoring platform developed by Opinum, to monitor The consumption of energy in its buildings. Opisense offers an intuitive and economical way to measure consumption. Since the implementation of Opisense, the city has cut its energy accounting time by 80%, reduced energy consumption by almost 30%, and can easily analyze and share its consumption data. The energy manager has earned more than 80% of his working time by automating his energy accounting. Thanks to this, it improved its communication with the occupants of buildings by showing the figures obtained thanks to the monitoring platform.

Opinum was mandated by the City of Ottignies-Louvain-la-Neuve to monitor the consumption of 114 public buildings. The city had an annual energy bill of 1,100,000 € per year. In order to carry out a consumption report, the energy manager carried out manual readings on paper (encoding errors, time to encoder to Excel spreadsheet, possible calculation errors).

Thanks to Opisense, manual readings can be carried out via Opisense INDEX mobile application or via smart meter reading. Once the data is synchronized and centralized on the Web platform, reports and alarms are automatically configurable.

Using Opisense, a subcontracting energy services company helped the city identify over 150 actions to reduce energy costs:

- Interface GTC / Modification GTC

- Monitoring of consumption

- New regulation

- Meetings with users

- Etc.

Sustainable Development

    Reduction in consumption and expenditure

Increased time available for exchange between the building manager and users

Identification of water leaks and energy wastage

Optimization of building control based on actual occupancy

Reducing the ecological footprint of infrastructure

Connect to any existing hardware, new or old

With a digitized management of the buildings, all sources of information are found in a common database, Opisense. This digitization not only reduces consumption, but also increases the comfort of the occupants.

The building of the future will not only consume energy, but also an intelligent supply tool on the network, via the installation of photovoltaic panels and batteries.

Almost 40% of the CO2 produced in Europe is attributable to building consumption. It is important to invest in renewable energies, but also to reduce our consumption to ensure our future.

Empower building occupants to make better use of energy through the display of building consumption in real time.

Reasons for participating in the competition(s)
