[Webinar] District heating and data centres - a pilot project in Ireland

The webinar will focus on the recovery of waste heat, especially from data center. The South Dublin City Council is developing the 1st large-scale district heating scheme in Ireland in the Tallaght Town Centre area. This project will provide low-carbon heat to public sector, residential and commercial customers, by utilising waste heat from a local data centre, to supply a centralised, large-scale heat pump. The phase 1 of the project will save 1,441 tonnes of CO2 annually. The company operating the district heating system will be fully-owned by South Dublin County Council and will be the first not-for-profit energy utility in Ireland.

Below is a short bio of the speakers:

Mags Dalton is an Account Manager with PM Group. Over the past 20 years she has worked as a Senior Environmental Consultant, Department Manager, Principal Project Manager and has held her current role since 2017. Mags’ current responsibilities include managing the day to day activities for a confidential US based ICT multinational client. Multiple design and construction projects across sites in five countries have been executed by PM Group for this client over this period. Mags manages the relationship between PM Group, the client and the various other stakeholders involved.

Mags is passionate about all aspects of Data Centre design and construction with a particular focus on what a DC of the future will look like; the impact technology will have and how it will impact the environment.

Eddie Conroy is County Architect with South Dublin County Council since 2007.  He has worked on a broad range of design projects – Housing, Public Buildings, Civic and Urban Design and is involved in the ongoing design of the Adamstown and Clonburris new-towns, Tallaght Town Centre and the new urban neighbourhood of Kilcarbery in Clondalkin. He was one of the authors of the Design Manual for Urban Roads and Streets, a new national standard for Ireland.

He has been central to a number of multi-city EU energy-research programmes including LEAP and SPECIAL (both under Intelligent Energy Europe), Interreg “HeatNet NWE” district-heating project and the Tallaght Smart Energy Test-bed.
