Building Simulation 2021 Conference
COVID-19 brings a lot of uncertainties. We want to inform you, clearly and well in advance about our plans:
- BS2021 will be organized as a safe physical and face-to-face conference in September 2021 in Bruges (Belgium). We ensure a safe event and will take all necessary measures and we will follow government guidelines, so that the conference can take place in a COVID-secure way. We prefer to look at things positively and things are looking up: Belgium is re-opening society over the summer, allowing events and conferences to take place again.
- For the BS2021 Organizing Committee, a live meeting is key. There has never been such an important time to connect and be social. Therefore, we will not switch to an online or hybrid alternative, and we will not organize any streaming of the conference sessions. We are looking forward to work and discuss together, and to the commitment of all of you to a memorable live conference!
- Only in the case of force majeure (e.g. travelling to Belgium is not allowed by the authorities, social distancing puts a limit on the allowed participants below the treshold set, conferences are not allowed, …), we need to go to plan B, which is postponement to August 2022.
- In case of plan B (postponement to August 2022):
- We will valorise the accepted papers (from 2021) in “Proceedings of a postponed conference”, such that they count as peer reviewed international publications. Furthermore, we allow the authors to present this (published in 2021) work in 2022 with an updated presentation (no updated paper). Authors may also choose not to publish in 2021 and resubmit in 2022.
- Our cancellation and refund policy can be found on our registration page. We offer a full refund of the registration fee, in case of cancellation up until June 30 – and we will re-evaluate the situation in Belgium on June 28 and will update you about our plans.
These plans try to maximize the chances for a successful BS2021 conference and to minimize the risks for all parties involved as much as possible.

BS2021 - Creating Impact
We aim at creating impact by translating research results into practice. Bridging the gap between academics and practitioners is key. Special focus on day one, impact day, where research and practice will intensively interact. We want to bring together a mix of academics, R&D people, practitioners and policy makers.
Keywords are: impact, valorization, to reach out, to bridge with industry and to reverberate. Get ready, team up with practice and research on a path towards a real impact with building energy simulation. At Building Simulation 2021, we want to bring together the interests of academics and practitioners in a stimulating technical program. We therefore focus on the application of the latest scientific developments at the frontier of the societal challenges in the built environment.
