« Lits Halte Soins Santé » building, with a capacity of 40 beds, is intended to accommodate homeless people requiring temporary care. The aim of the project was to provide a comfortable and pleasant life to facilitate the adaptation of occupants and get an easy maintenance and energy efficient building. In addition, the duration of construction imposed is very short (10 months), the choice of building in wood was done. Consistent in terms of sustainable development, it meets the eco-design and THPE ENR RT 2005 (a gain of 39%).
Sustainable development approach of the project owner
The building owner wanted this project to be coherent in terms of sustainable development by its materials and the use of renewable energies. For financial reasons, the project had to be limited in time, a major factor in the program. The choice of wood was strongly advocated by the SOS group, keen on developing of buildings generating a minimal impact on the environment and low-cost maintenance.Architectural description
The design of the building is bioclimatic to meet environmental criteria with optimum integration of the building in its urban context. The wood was an easy choice for it allows prefabrication in workshops and reduces the construction time through constructive system integrating the entire envelope (insulation complex, ...). The land and the available footprint induced architecture of this building by promoting East / West exposure. The first floor terraces allow visitors, users and inhabitants to enjoy the view. The surface of the rooftop (a terrace) is used for the location of technical facilities. The four facades have different moldings related to their orientation: small openings for the windows of the rooms on the east and west facades, protected by movable wooden shutters; maximum openings on the south by glazed entrance doors with sun and breeze cusps for protection from the sun, and the north side is closed and therefore protected from the cold and prevailing winds, we find there the fire escape and access to technical facilities (boiler, solar panels) on the roof terrace.
