SCAHSA 2018, will be hosted as one of the highlights of 2018 Annual Session of Global Forum on Human Settlements (GFHS 2018), which will be held in 30-31 October 2018 at the United Nations Conference Center, Bangkok, Thailand. The forum will commemorate World Cities Day 2018 and focus on the theme, “Advancing Urban Innovations to Achieve SDG 11 and the New Urban Agenda”.

GFHS 2018 is organized at a critical point in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the New Urban Agenda. The ambition of these global agendas will require the transformation of cities and the fostering of innovation to manage growth and create high-quality, resilient and sustainable urban development. Senior officials from the United Nations, high-level officials from Thailand and other national governments will join city mayors, practitioners and civil society to provide keynote addresses and participate in multi-stakeholder dialogues on how to leverage the potential of cities to realize the global objectives. More than 500 stakeholders from public sector, private sector and civil society will attend.

GFHS 2018 will be co-organized by the Global Forum on Human Settlements (GFHS) and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), in cooperation with the Global One Belt One Road Association (GOBA), and the Better City Institute (BCI). GFHS 2018 is a global platform for high-level dialogues, and sharing of innovative approaches and solutions, strategies, technologies and successful local experiences. The forum seeks to enhance capacity, foster new partnerships and effective actions, and promote cooperation and green development.

The 2-day event will consist of an opening ceremony, keynote speech, mayors panel, parallel sessions, training sessions and networking. The Forum will address the key issue of localizing the Sustainable Development Goals and the New Urban Agenda through an application of a circular economy approach and the use of tools for financing sustainable urban infrastructure and applying innovative technologies for smart cities.
