On April 5th, the Romania Green Building Council organized the third edition of the event that focused on the eco-labeling topic. The event engaged the construction and hospitality industry and its service and product suppliers in a discussion about the opportunity and importance of a more environmentally responsible approach to designing, renovating, and operating their properties.

This year we have extended the discussion beyond the Ecolabel for services in the hospitality industry,  and included the Ecolabel for construction products as well, given the new developments at the EU level. The main guest was Mrs. Daniela Toma – Councellor within the Directorate of  Pollution Control and Impact Assessment, part of the Ministry of Environment and Forests. Mrs. Toma presented the advantages of obtaining the ecolabel  for construction products and the steps to be followed.

Furthermore, we discussed about the current developments around the Ecolabel for buildings and presented our position on this issue, based on the common letter that was agreed at the WorldGBC's Europe Network level. As a result, the Ministry of Environement agreed to establish a consultative working group together with Romania Green Buildings Council's representatives, that will analyze and submit feedback on the draft criteria for Ecolabel in buildings, once the Joint Research Center releases its next version on the criteria.

The first trans‐European communication platform about Sustainable Construction -  Construction 21 was also part of the agenda. Ms. Eng. Mihaela Nicolau presented the project’s scope and how companies can get involved. The project was very well received and we expect more companies to be interested in uploading their case studies on the C21 platform.
