[Event] Paris-Saclay Spring: 5th generation DHC: new keys to decarbonise our cities!

Since 2018, the European D2GRIDS project aims to promote 5th generation district heating and cooling (5GDHC) in Northwest Europe. On May 12, on the occasion of the Paris-Saclay Spring event, the D2Grids team, EPA Paris Saclay and FNCCR are organising a dedicated day to this last generation of heating and cooling grids.

A day dedicated to 5th generation local energy loops

The aim of this event is to raise awareness and demonstrate how 5th generation local energy loops are key to decarbonise territories. The event will also be an opportunity to demonstrate the development of the 5GDHC grid on the Paris-Saclay pilot site.

• 10:30 am - 12:00 pm: Conference: "5th generation DHC: new keys to decarbonise our cities!" in collaboration with the FNCCR

During the conference "5th generation DHC: new keys to decarbonise our cities!", experts from the European D2Grids project will present the structuring elements of the management and operation of 5GDHC grids, through several European examples. The Paris-Saclay grid will be illustrated by the results of the advanced thermal demand management demonstrator.

• 13:30 pm - 15:15 pm: Workshop: "Introducing 5GDHC in your city!"

City representatives, decision-makers, industrials are you considering a 5GDHC grid for your city? Then join the 5GDHC role-play game to know more on ways and benefits to integrate this new concept! This interactive game will take you through a simulated meeting organized by a district heating company who would like to introduce a 5GDHC pilot case in your city. Participants will need to establish a plan to meet ambitious goals regarding carbon-neutral heating in buildings and required infrastructure. Through this game, you will improve your knowledge of 5GDHC, and collaborate with other players on district heating issues.

• 15:30 pm - 16:30 pm: Visit the D2GRIDS pilot site in Paris-Saclay: discover the 5th generation heat and cold network within the Paris-Saclay Establishment!

Largely supplied by deep geothermal energy, the 5th generation Paris-Saclay heating and cooling grid makes it possible to exchange energy (heating and cooling) between the various real estate projects, contributing to a decrease of the final energy cost. It allows CO2 emissions to be divided by four.

Combined with a smart electricity network, it will become the Paris-Saclay smart multi-energy grid, a world first on this scale. As part of the D2Grids project, winner of the "Intereg North West Europe" call for projects, the Paris-Saclay exchange grid is one of the European demonstrators of 5th generation heating and cooling grids.
