INFINITE project: First visit to the Italian demo case

INFINITE partners went to Florence to visit the demonstration buildings and meet the residents
Greve in Chianti is a small village in the touristic region of Chianti, near Florence. In a quiet, residential area at a short walking distance from the city centre, two buildings have been selected to test INFINITE method for deep energy renovation.
At the end of July, researchers from Eurac Research and representatives from Casa Spa visited the case study area to get a first impression of the status of the buildings. On the day before, the partners met in Florence to discuss the potential implementation of INFINITE technologies.
Over the next few years, the project will develop tailor-made solutions that will increase the energy efficiency of the buildings. This will improve the living conditions of the residents while lowering their bills for electricity. The interventions will focus on the external walls and the roof, where INFINITE prefabricated modules will be installed. Technologies such as BIPV modules, smart windows, and ventilation systems are currently under consideration for the renovation.
The human factor
INFINITE demonstration buildings in Greve in Chianti are mostly inhabited by elderly people who have been living there for more than 40 years. The visit provided a great opportunity to meet the residents and listen to their needs and expectations. Establishing a good relationship with them is an essential step for the success of the design process. In fact, they will play an important role in shaping the project’s solutions.
The partners will visit the site at least two more times to drive acceptance of the technologies developed within the project and understand the residents’ behaviour in terms of energy consumption.
