The NYC Mayor’s Office of Long-Term Planning and Sustainability recently launched a dedicated website – PlaNYC Green Buildings&Energy Efficiency – that includes all the information related to how the city is making its building stock greener and more efficient.

The center-piece of the sustainability policy in NYC is PlaNYC a comprehensive plan for sustainable growth with specific targets and objectives to be met by 2030. The main assets of the city are its buildings, but they also have the biggest environmental impact. Therefore a lot of policies in combination with financial incentives and training opportunities were put in place in order to green the building stock.

Check out the website to find more about:

  1. The Greener, Greater Building Plan –  a set of 4      local laws that are meant to create a benchmark on energy consumption and introduce other measures to reduce the energy and water consumption in  the largest buildings (the ones above 50,000 sqft or aprox. 4650m2)
  2. How the NYC is Greening its' building codes and regulations – introducing new standards meant to improve water efficiency, landscape practices,  energy efficiency, toxicity of materials, use of resources, occupants’ health and many more
  3. What are the financing programs, incentives and tax abatements for energy efficiency measures and for implementing other green practices in new and existing buildings
  4. How the City is taking the lead and greening the public buildings

…and many more details on other specific initiatives.

Do you know of any other cities in the world that have dedicated websites for their green building policies and initiatives?
