Energy efficiency toolbox for buildings is ready to use

EFFECT4buildings project has published a toolbox with financial tools and instruments for energy efficiency in buildings. The toolbox with different supportive tools is available to all building managers to help produce desired energy efficiency long term goals.

The energy efficiency toolbox will help building managers to solve various bottlenecks encountered during the execution of energy efficiency projects. The toolbox is provided with own simple guides that explain how and when to use different tools and how to combine them.

Also, a summary is included, that will help building managers to provide initial brief overview of the first things to consider and methods to use to achieve energy efficiency of a building without taking excessive financial risks.

Building managers are key actors to address the fact that 36 % of CO2 emissions in the EU relates to buildings,” says lead partner project manager Marit Ragnarsson from the County board of Dalarna in Sweden.

They are often aware of possible technical solutions, but at the same time facing challenges with limited human and financial resources. To convince decisionmakers to invest in energy efficiency measures, both financial and technical risks must be limited,” added Ragnarsson.

In general, there are three groups of tools that include supportive tools, financial instruments, and technology solutionsAll tools are very practical and ready for immediate use. They provide a practical guide as an overview and are supplemented with concrete tool elements such as guidelines, templates, contracts, training material and recommendations.

Supportive tools include instructions of how to convince the decision-maker and obtain positive renovation decision, tool for financial calculations that shows how to calculate and present financial impact of the project, how to bundle different measures and to make it financially attractive, overview of funding instruments and schemes.

Financial instruments include an improved implementation model for Energy performance contracting (EPC) with tender criteria, contract templates and step-by-step guidelines.

With Multi service contracting, additional benefits to energy savings can be reached such as improved indoor climate. Other instruments are Guides for Green lease contracting and a thorough overview how to become prosumer i.e. how to produce and consume electricity at the same time.

Technology solutions tool helps to navigate among various technological solutions available on the market. Also, a pilot was carried out for energy monitoring by using control of technical building systems and 24/7 diagnostics of a smart building.

The results showed that AI (artificial intelligence) was significantly quicker and more accurate in detecting problems than an ordinary operator.

EFFECT4buildings project is financed by EU Program Interreg Baltic Sea Region (European Regional Development Fund) and Norwegian Funding.

The goal is to implement more energy efficiency measures in public buildings in the Baltic Sea Region. Partners are from Sweden, Finland, Norway, Latvia, Estonia, Denmark, and Poland.  For more information please visit www.effect4buildings.se.
