Energy efficiency at the heart of Europe's stability

A very timely and interesting article in EurActiv.com from Oliver Rapf, Executive Director of the Building Performance Institute of Europe.

Energy efficiency at the heart of Europe's stability

I could not agree more with his comments...This week when world leaders came together in New York to (hopefully) progress action on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, we must also recognize the severe costs and risks of "business as usual" related to Europe's fragile energy security. Furthermore, sensible and ambitious energy efficiency create jobs which... goes without saying... are urgently needed; particularly in conflict zones who need to create economic opportunity to reduce tensions.

Europe will shortly debate inclusion of the energy efficiency targets with the 2030 Climate Energy strategy.   Our analysis concludes that buildings can deliver - and cost effectively -  substantially all of the 30% reduction in energy use supported by member states leading the way toward a low carbon economy.
