BUILD UP Skills event during the Barcelona Building CONSTRUMAT’19 international trade fair.

The buildings sector in Europe is undergoingchange in both technology and legislation. Tighter European energy and climate targets have been set, including revision to the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD). Achieving higher energy performance requires higher standards of construction and changes to the way we design and construct buildings, to guarantee energy efficiency as well as an increased share of renewable energy.

Europe therefore needs more skilled and better qualified building professionals. From January 2021, all new constructions will be Nearly-Zero Energy Buildings. Industry also needs to accelerate the rate of renovation of existing buildings, and to ensure that buildings are ready to participate in a smarter energy system with renewables.

At the same time, the move towards digitalisation calls for a new skill set for all professionals involved in the value chain.

  • How can we equip building professionals with the digital skills needed to support the energy transition of the EU building stock?
  • How can we ensure that training and qualification programmes for building professionals embrace emerging technologie that can act as real game-changers, e.g. Internetof-Things (IoT), 3-D scanning and printing, virtual reality, robotics, smart materials and appliances or Building Information Modelling (BIM)?
  • What have been recent success stories in training building professionals towards sustainable energy?

These are some of the questions that will be addressed in this workshop, with participation from the European Commission, national authorities, building industry representatives, education & training experts and EU-funded projects.

The language of the event is English.

Registrations will be soon available.
