A consultation has been launched on the International observatory, City21

Construction21 launches an online consultation on the City21 project, the international observatory for sustainable cities. The indicators were developed with a group of experts in collaboration with the ADEME (The agency of the environment and the control of energy).

This on-line survey will make possible to gather views and recommendations from a large number of professionals, French and internationals, to ensure the relevancy of the indicators in all kinds of territories and regions around the world.

The City21 web platform is the new tool of Construction21 ecosystem, developed with the ADEME and R20- Regions of climate action founded by Arnold Schwarzenegger. This tool will highlight sustainable exemplary projects and will make easier the exchange of experiences between stakeholders, local authorities as well as companies. It will thus help to massively disseminate new ways to build and operate the city, and develop these new markets.

Any scale of projects, in any type of context (urban, peri-urban and rural areas) will be displayed. The indicators defined by a group of experts are based on the main French and European standards in sustainable development including the RFSC (Reference framework for European sustainable cities).  Each case study describes the main characteristics of the urban project and provides some figures and key indicators in order to evaluate the quality of the urban intervention. Additional information, including the description of practical solutions, will complete this identity card according to 9 dimensions:

  • Governance
  • Quality of life
  • Local development
  • Mobility
  • Digital/ Smart City
  • Resources
  • Biodiversity
  • Energy/ Climate
  • Buildings

With City21, local authorities will be able to share their best projects with their peers, and companies that have developed innovative urban solutions will highlight their how-know and promote their services.

City21 will be launched on December 4, 2015, during the COP21 in Paris-Le Bourget. A first beta version will be online on the French Construction21 platform, displaying a first set of twenty urban projects, located half in France and half in other countries. These 20 projects will be selected among pilot references powered by the ADEME and R20, as well as other City21’s partners.

The audience will progressively grow throughout 2016 with the publication of other French case studies, the launch in others Construction21’ countries and the organization of an international contest, Green City Solutions Awards.
