Sustainable development approach of the project owner

Mediterranean Green Building Silver level

Architectural description

The NEEL high school, built in the 60s, is composed of functionalist buildings great heights (R + R 3 + 5) put on a very large plot of 28 000m². The project involves the redevelopment of existing buildings and construction of new buildings of the old terminal: 11000m² including extensions 3500m² of new wood (shell structure) to R + 1 and DRC. The use of wood for new buildings, wood cladding of existing treatment, revegetation exteriors and roofs, restore humanity and friendliness to this school to the rationalist structure. The additional one-off interventions wooden -préaux link, emergences existing roof, bancs- bring coherence to the whole.

Building users opinion

Back to the experiments conducted by the Agency 02.07.2015 Quality Construction and Envirobat BDM: - Positive feedback from the students, staff and teachers feel good in a wooden environment. The CDI is the most popular piece notament by the sound quality offered by the materials. The principle of natural ventilation provides effective refresh the room. In general, we see that the wooden high schools are less degraded than other construction methods. On walls and interior equipment, no damage can be reported, the outdoor garden is also well respected. Only a few radiators have been degraded. The art room is also very bright, thanks to a large bay window that offers a very clear view on the mountain environment.

If you had to do it again?

Back to the experiments conducted by the Agency 02.07.2015 Quality Construction and Envirobat BDM - Some classrooms are too small surface. The programming step would advocate the biggest indoor surfaces. Increase the area of the rooms would be useful in future high schools programs. - Swinging at the entrance gates fail to properly filter the input / output high school students - Internal not all hot water for the shower in the morning because they all use the same time. Installing a variable speed circulation pump might be improved inconvenience. - Care should be taken to educate maintenance teams to perform the correct setting of T ° C set on the BMS, to avoid over-consumption and costs. - Leaks were identified at the junctions between the old and the new network of hot water pipes. This shows the importance of achieving the seals at these junctions. - The sunscreens are not those recommended by the architect. The company made the choice of a material of lower quality. Some sunscreens are blocked or broken
