The Valencian Institute of Building (IVE) and the CONSUM cooperative, are launching an international competition to support innovative solutions aimed at improving stores’ energy performance.

This initiative is part of the Climate Market Accelerator (CMA), a programme by the Climate-KIC platform to foster the development of innovative products and services that help mitigate climate change and give new solutions such as these a boost over the barriers between them and the marketplace.

Challenge

The point of the competition is to develop innovative products, technologies or services whose implementation in stores like CONSUM supermarkets will lead to enhanced energy performance and therefore a reduction of the CO2emissions associated with lighting and HVAC energy consumption, thus contributing to the necessary goals of climate change mitigation and adaptation.

Who should enter?

Proposals may be submitted by one or more people or organisations, provided that they have their residence or central headquarters inside the European Union. This includes:

  • Any individual age 18 or older.
  • Any legal person: sole traders, SMEs with no more than 100 employees, public agencies, university research groups and non-profit organisations.

Categories and prizes

Two winning proposals will be selected and will be eligible for two different prizes, depending on where each particular proposal sits on the scale of development:

×          Early stage idea: proposals that are still in an early stage of development. The winning idea may draw a €5,000 cheque to attend Climate-KIC’s summer school The Journey in 2014.

×          Closet o market: proposals that are in an advanced stage of development and near to be put into the market. The winning solution will get an innovation cheque of up to €15,000 with which to consolidate the project. It will have its chance to prove its performance in a pilot run at a CONSUM store and will benefit from the visibility and support of the Climate-KIC partner network.

When?

Entries are due by 8 p.m. on Sunday, October 6. Winners will be notified by November 15.
