Minister_Baume_Construction21_Consense-2012In their booth, Construction21 partners have answered the questions of many visitors and demonstrated the platform. A very special visitor, Ministerialdirektor Mr. Bäumer, a representative of the Ministry of Baden-Württemberg for traffic and infrastructure. He was very interested in Construction21 and the opportunities it offers for developing the green economy.

A conference was held the 19th of June in INTERFACE FLOR conference room, the host of this event. The lecture was introduced by Steven Borncamp, President of Romania Green Bulding Council, who explained how social media and the new way of communication they bring in our lives will be a strong booster for the building sector revolution to green.

David Clark, from Cundall Engineering, exposed the point of view of an expert of building energy efficiency. He told the importance to take care of real building performance (and not only forecasts) and the whole carbon footprint, including the building itself, but also its use.

Construction21 main features were then presented by the project manager, Véronique Pappe, from IFPEB (French Institute for Energy Efficiency in Buildings) and some other partners of this international project.  A special focus about thematic communities was brought by Anne Braune, Head of PE INTERNATIONAL‘s building & construction team. She shared her new experience of social media and how she felt comfortable to share experiences and contacts on Construction21, a non-profit platform gathering practitioners involved in green building and ready to act and really change the things.

Roser Gasol, Communication manager of the UNESCO Chair in Life Cycle and Climate Change in Barcelona and Gintaras Staukis, Professor from Vilnius Gediminas Technical University in Lithuania detailed the case studies section. They showed the interest of this database of performing buildings, offering to practitioners an European benchmark and a promotion channel of their best achievements.

To finish, Construction21 international development was officially announced. National organizations strongly involved in new countries will be soon sleected to open Construction21 platforms in new countries. After the sic founding countries, it will be the second step leading to the final target : covering the whole Europe (and more) in 2016.

Construction21 project was also specifically presented to the European network of Green Building councils. They showed a great interest in developing this tool in their country, as a strong booster of their action and an essential tool to disseminate best practices and share information.
