8th European Conference of Sustainable Cities & Towns - Transformative Actions: the potential for Europe

The 8th European Conference of Sustainable Cities & Towns – “Transformative Actions: the potential for Europe”, taking place on 27-29 of April in Basque Country, Bilbao, will focus on the pressing need for action by local governments to change unsustainable pathways and shape Europe's future. The Euskalduna Palace (Bilbao) will host the three-day conference, which will also be preceded by a number of pre-events. Plenary sessions featuring high level speakers will complement interactive break-out sessions where participants will have the opportunity to mingle with those at the forefront of sustainable thought, practice, policy, and implementation as well as exchange experience and best practices.

In addition to the rich programme, mobile workshops will show key aspects of urban transformation in the three Basque counties (Bizkaia, Gipuzkoa and Araba). Participants will have the chance to see successful projects focused on sustainability, as well as enjoy their locally and worldwide famous cuisine.

Following the legacy of the seven previous events, starting in Aalborg 1994, the event aims to gather participants from local and national governments, UN and European institutions as well as NGOs, research institutes and businesses. It is jointly organised by ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability, the Basque Government, Bizkaia County Council and Bilbao City Council, with the involvement of Udalsarea 21 - Basque Network of Municipalities for Sustainability, and the support of Araba County Council, Gipuzkoa County Council, Donostia/San Sebastián City Council and Vitoria-
Gasteiz City Council.
